I’m only a BJJ purple belt, but there’s something our professor keeps telling us:
“Be a specialist in something. A type of guard, a submission, takedowns… it doesn’t matter what. Be good in everything, because it’s important to be a complete fighter. But be a specialist and a reference for those that want to learn that movement.”
Today a blue belt came to me and asked about nogi takedowns.
I don’t consider myself a specialist in TD, but had to learn some to avoid being taken down.
What I mean is: someone feels I’m good at something to the point of asking questions about it.
That was a nice day.
